WABASH,Indiana – At an 18 minute Wabash County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning, Wabash County Sheriff Bob Land reported to the board that there are currently 82 inmates in the Wabash County Jail with 53 overflow inmates housed in Miami County. Last week, Land said that the jail had 21 new book-ins and 10 transports to the Department of Corrections. He added that last week’s average population was 135.14 if the Wabash County and Miami County Jails were combined into one number.

The board tabled an ordinance setting a State Board of Accounts internal control standard. The did pass an ordinance which prohibits large trucks on the non-designated detour route around the area of the bridge construction on SR 13 over Miller Ditch. The ordinance covers SR 13 to 175 E, 175 E from 1000 N to 1100 N, 950 N from SR 13 to 200W and 1050 N from SR 13 to 200 W. Chairman Barry Eppley said that these types of ordinances are standard whenever there’s road construction on a busy county road.

The board also approved up to $23,000 out of user fees from CUM CAP for the x-ray belt scanner and monitor system at the Wabash County Judaical Center. County HR Director Jim Dils told MiBash News that the current walk-through metal detector is working fine and will not be replaced. Dils noted that the new enhanced x-ray belt scanner will have better detection technology than the old scanner which dates from 2002.

The board also approved an additional appropriation for an examination of records. Last week at the Wabash County Council meeting, the council only appropriated $6,000 to cover examinations of records by the state. Since then, the county has received a bill from the State Board of Records for almost $20,000 for a regular audit of MSD of Wabash County. Eppley said that the new $20,000 appropriation will now go to the county council for final approval.
