CALLING SENIOR WRITERS

Living Well Winchester Senior Center announces the Winter Writing Contest for Wabash
County residents age sixty and over. Entries can be fictional stories, or personal accounts set in
winter. Canadian writer of fantasy (Wikipedia), Charles de Lint, is quoted as saying, “Don’t
forget – no one else sees the world the way you do, so no one else can tell the stories that you
have to tell.”
Each of us has a story to tell, but few put it in writing. Wabash County seniors are encouraged to
think back to snow days, sledding, holidays from their childhood or some other stage of life. The
stories must be about winter or happen during winter. The stories can be fictional for the
creative writers or taken directly from life. There is no limit on the number of words. They can
be handwritten for those seniors without access to a computer.
Entries must be postmarked or received by Wednesday, March 10. Submit entries to Winchester
Senior Center, P.O. Box 447, 239 Bond St., Wabash, IN 46992. Participants need to include
their name, address, and phone number with their entry. Winners will be announced March 19,
the last day of winter.
Prizes will be gift certificates which can be used at multiple local businesses. First prize will be
a $20 gift certificate and second prize will be a $10 gift certificate.
The doors to Living Well Winchester Senior Center closed in March due to the pandemic, but
programming for and outreach to seniors never stopped. For more information about any of the
services or programs call (260) 563-4475.
