Battery on video arrest story

PERU, IN- February 21, 2020 at approximately 8:15 PM officers from the Peru Police Department were dispatched to the 400 block of Apache Drive to conduct a welfare check on a small child. Officers received information of the existence of a video of an adult female who had battered the child and that the battery was captured on video.
Officers located the 10 month old child and the mother. Officers along with the assistance of the Indiana Department of Child Services determined that the child was not injured and the child was later safely placed with family members as an investigation was initiated.
As officers were conducting the initial investigation the video of the child being battered was released via social media resulting in numerous reports to the Peru Police Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
As a result of the preliminary investigation 21 year old Hannah R. Winch was arrested on February 22, 2020 and transported to the Miami County Jail on charges of domestic battery, a level 6 felony, and intimidation, a level 6 felony.
The Peru Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
