MARION, IN- An arrest has been made in this homicide investigation. Marion Police Department Criminal Investigation Division have arrested a 16 year old in connection with the murder of Walter Carpenter. It is believed that the motive was to rob the victim and the suspect then shot the victim one time. The 16-year-old is being held in a juvenile facility outside of Grant County currently. Detective are continuing this investigation.
On March 25, 2023 at approximately 2:59 am, officers were dispatched to 1000 block of West 5th Street in Marion Indiana for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to an apartment to find the victim lying on the kitchen floor suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.
Officers began life saving measures and the victim was transported to Marion Health. The victim was then transported to a hospital in Ft. Wayne Indiana. Detectives were notified a few hours later that the victim did not survive his injury.
The victim is Walter Carpenter (DOB 7/20/1982) of Marion.
