Accidental Shooting in Peru Sends Man to Hospital

PERU, Ind. – At approximately 12:30 PM Thursday Miami County Central Dispatch was advised of a shooting that had occurred at 104 S. Miami St. in Peru. Officers arrived a short time later and, along with Dukes EMS and the Peru Fire Department, were able to give medical assistance to the shooting victim. Through the initial investigation, officers spoke with several people who were at the scene. Officers discovered that the gun was accidentally discharged during repair and assembly of the weapon. The person who was in possession of the gun accidentally shot himself in the hand with the bullet then traveling and striking another male subject in the leg. The victim who was shot in the leg was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital for treatment. No charges have been filed at this point. With the ongoing investigation, police have not released names.
