27 WHS Students Participated in ISSMA Piano and Vocal State Contest

WABASH, Ind. – Twenty-seven students from Wabash High School participated in the annual Indiana State School Music Association Piano and Vocal State Contest held at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 16th. Eight of the nine entries earned “superior,” gold-medal ratings; one earned an “excellent,” silver-medal score. Of the superior ratings, three qualified with near-perfect scores to win the highest honor – “Superior With Distinction.”

Vocal soloists who earned a gold medal included: Abbey Baggett, Ben Hewitt, Emilly Martin, and Mackenzie Sheridan. Emilly and Mackenzie’s gold medals were Superior With Distinction.

The Symphonic Voices, Wabash High School’s auditioned women’s Chamber Ensemble, entered as a Group I Women’s Large Ensemble winning the highest Gold-rating: Superior With Distinction, as well. These members were Abbey Baggett, Kaedyn Day, Allyson Dillon, Haley Higgins, Abi Hobson, Mackenzie Hoefer, Jordan Jones, Camille Kugler, Olivia Lindsay, Emilly Martin, and Mackenzie Sheridan.

Entered in the Group I Men’s Large Ensemble division, the Debonairs scored an additional 17 gold medals for their performance. These men were Alex Baggett, Wyatt Dillon, Jordan Dragoo, Bryce France, Jared Harner, Ethan Haynes , Marcus Haynes, Quinn Haynes, Ben Hewitt, Todd Ihnen-Goff, Drayton Larimore- Rowe, Logan Luttrell, Brenden Rowen, Ashtyn Shemwell, Artie Wischman, and Zach Smith.

In the Small Ensembles division, two entries received Gold ratings. Entered in the superior-medalist women’s quartet were Emilly Martin, Mackenzie Sheridan, Camille Kugler, and Abbey Baggett.

A women’s sextet included Mackenzie Hoefer, Haley Higgins, Allyson Dillon, Olivia Lindsay, Kaedyn Day, and Jordan Jones.

A men’s trio consisting of Ben Hewitt, Zach Smith, and Marcus Haynes earned a Silver medal.
