Zay: Communities in Senate District 17 receive more than $3 million in road-funding grants

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2019) – Communities in Senate District 17 will receive more than $3 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program<https://www.in.gov/indot/2390.htm> (CCMG), said State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington).
The CCMG was established by the Indiana General Assembly<https://iga.in.gov/> in 2016, and aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since it was put into place, the program has awarded nearly $500 million in state matching funds for local construction projects.
In Senate District 17, the following counties and municipalities received grants:

 *   Andrews received $15,339.61;
 *   Grant County received $270,000;
 *   Huntington County received $595,597.31;
 *   Larwill received $129,727.72;
 *   Sweetser received $147,150;
 *   Van Buren received $181,682;
 *   Wabash received $829,452.73; and
 *   Wabash County received $1,000,000.

This from the City of Wabash: “The City of Wabash was notified today that we will be receiving $829,452.73 in Community Crossings Matching Grant Funds from the Indiana Department of Transportation! This money will be used to repave Pike Street from Vernon Street to the City Limits, Falls Avenue from Sinclair to Cambridge Drive, and re build Wedcor Avenue from SR 15 to Martin Yale Industries. This work will be completed in 2020”

“Community Crossings is a vital resource to ensure Hoosiers remain safe when traveling or going to work or school,” Zay said. “I’m hopeful these grants will contribute significantly to our continued efforts to improve the roads and bridges we use every day.”
Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations of at least 50,000 and cities and towns with populations of at least 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
