Indiana has been hailed as a state that’s made some progress in securing equality for women, but advocates say there’s still a lot of work to be done. Today (Friday) is Women’s Equality Day and National Organization for Women president Terry O’Neill says issues such as equal pay and the right to reproductive health are the reason women can’t back down.

O’Neill says women make about 77 cents for every dollar men are paid. She adds access to affordable child care and paid family leave are issues that states such as Indiana need to address.

O’Neill says Women’s Equality Day needs to be celebrated to recognize those in the past who fought so other voices could be heard.

August 26th, which is Women’s Equality Day, was set aside by Congress in 1971 to mark the 1920 passage of the law that guaranteed the right to vote to women.
