WABASH, Ind. – Wabash City Schools discussed entering Phase II of the Community Foundation of Wabash County’s Studies for Advancement.
On Tuesday, Nov. 14, the CFWC announced the second phase will focus on “further investigation of district consolidation,” according to a press release.
Superintendent Jason Callahan provided an outline of potential points he and MSD of Wabash County Superintendent Mike Keaffaber collaborated on for the second phase to investigate.
Callahan told the board the goals of the study are to answer whether or not consolidation would lead to educative opportunities and if it would be fiscally efficient. He also encourage the board members not to lead with the idea of reducing, but to lead with the idea of increased efficiency.
The proposal would request that the study examine legal considerations, such as school board configuration, financial considerations, facility considerations, transportation configuration, curricular and extracurricular considerations as well as provide a community audit, which would identify the districts’ academic priorities, extracurricular priorities, financial priorities and facility priorities.
