The Wabash City Council granted three 10-year tax abatements when it met on Monday, Jan. 28.

Two of the abatements – one for real estate and the other for personal property – were for Rahee Enterprises. The third abatement was for DS Products/Jamat Leasing Co.

Rahee Enterprises is the firm that will build a Hampton Inn near the intersection of Wedcor Drive and State Road 15. Work on the 91 room motel is expected to begin in April, with a completion date of May 2020.

The firm plans to invest roughly $5.50 million in the project.

DS Products/Jamat Leasing Co., which does business here as Global Precision, plans to install $1.25 million in new equipment.

All three measures were unanimously approved by the council.

In another matter, the council approved on second reading an ordiance amending the zoning ordinance and making changes to the zoning map to allow a housing addition immediately south of Mill Street near Olive Street.

The council approved the measure 4-3, with members Doug Adams, Bob Greene and Bonnie Corn voting against the measure.
