WABASH COUNTY, IN- The annual Wabash Cannonball Chili for Charity Cookoff (WCCC) event, held the third Saturday each October, was founded by two friends— Steve Bowman and the late Bill Gerding. These two men envisioned a cook-off event with lots of fun, laughter, friends, and of course— chili! They invited the community to join in on the fun and decided any proceeds would be donated to a great cause!
Fast forward to today- this event continues to be one of the most highly anticipated events in Wabash County. Little did they know, it would still be going strong, some twenty years later. As we approach the official 20th Annual Chili Cookoff competition, taking place Saturday October 21st, 2023, it’s hard to believe WCCC, along with its partner Wabash County United Fund (who matches up to $10,000 annually), have already given away nearly $700,000 to countless local charities!
Emily Overlander, President of Wabash Cannonball Chili for Charity announced, “In honor of the 20th annual chili cookoff, we’re excited to share that 20 Wabash County charities will benefit from this year’s event! These 20 charities will receive the event proceeds, in addition to the amazing community support, recognition, and publicity surrounding this fun and exciting one-day event. By spotlighting each of the charities chosen, we aim to provide ongoing awareness of the vital goods and services they have to offer our community!”
They are proud to support the following charities in 2023:
