Update: Man taken into custody after standoff at Huntington home

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) — The subject of a drug-related warrant reportedly barricaded himself in a Huntington home for several hours Tuesday morning before he finally emerged and was taken into custody.

WANE 15 received multiple reports Tuesday morning that numerous police squad cars had converged on a home in Huntington. Viewers told WANE 15 that the incident was centered around a home in the area of Canfield and Division streets, on Huntington’s north side.

An Indiana State Police spokesman told WANE 15 that around 7:30 a.m., officers went to a home on Canfield Street to serve a drug-related warrant to Justin Crager of Garrett. A woman answered the door and came out of the home, but Crager retreated back into the home, state police said.

Police believed he went to the second floor of the home, and was armed. At that point, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s SWAT team was called in to assist, state police said.

During the course of the standoff, two other people came out of the home, while Crager stayed inside, state police said.

Around noon, Crager emerged from the home and he was taken into custody. Onlookers cheered as the situation came to a conclusion.

State police said in addition to the warrant, Crager could face additional charges related to the standoff. That will be decided by the county prosecutor’s office.
