WABASH, Ind. – It was a night of honors on Monday, April 23, when the Wabash City Council met.

Two employees who served the city for a combined 74 years were honored on the pending retirements.

Wabash Police Capt. John Burnsworth received a plaque from Mayor Scott Long for his 41 years on the department. He will be retiring later this week.

Long praised Burnsworth for serving as a mentor to many of the young patrolmen, including himself.

Meanwhile, Park Department employee Dale Amburgey also was honored for the 33 years he served for the department. He will retire in June.

Long also honored the Southwood High School boys basketball team for the season it just completed. The Knights finished second in the IHSAA Class A state tourney.

The players and coaches all received certificates from the mayor.

In another matter, Long declared May 2018 as Building Safety Month.

The Council, on second reading, also approved minor changes to the city’s political sign ordinance, bringing it in line with state statutes.
