Theo Smith Sr.

Theo Smith Sr., 81, passed away in his home February 2, 2018 in Peru.

He was born in McCreary County Kentucky on February 26, 1936 to Veto and Lucy (nee Gregory) Smith of Kentucky. Theo moved to Muncie, Indiana in about 1951 after his mother’s death and that is where he met and married Mary M. Baker on January 28, 1958. Theo and Mary moved to the Peru, Indiana area about 1963. Theo worked for Wilson Foods in Logansport, Indiana from the day it opened to the day it closed its doors. He also worked at the Peru Foundry among other factories in Peru.  In his life, Theo enjoyed fishing off of his boat, camping, watching sports especially wrestling, and gardening.

He is greeted in death by his wife Mary (died May 5, 2016) of Peru, Indiana and one son Floyd John Smith (died December 3, 2004) of Peru, Indiana and one grandson Joseph Lee Smith (died December 18, 1983) of Peru, Indiana, his parents Veto and Lucy Smith, and also his grandparents John Alfred and Kissie (nee Dobbs) Smith of Kentucky and Luke and Sara (nee Sagle) Gregory of Kentucky. Also preceded in death are two sisters: Grean Dell Lamb and Thye Ellen Reaper both of California. He is survived by eight living children. Marilyn Smith of Logansport, Indiana; Rebecca (Matt Senior) Shrock of Goodland, Indiana; Melinda (Wilbur) Bingaman of Logansport, Indiana; Theo Smith Junior (Tammy) of Peru, Indiana; Michael Smith and his friend Brenda Helton of Peru, Indiana; Daniel Smith and his friend April Vermilya of Peru, Indiana; Anthony Smith of Logansport, Indiana; and Lloyd Andrew Smith and his friend Shannon Ray of Peru, Indiana. He is survived by 26 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Doris Lamb of Las Vegas, Nevada and a sister Pearl (Lee) Marie Tucker of Indiana and a brother Leo Smith of Kentucky and a half-sister Micky Mae Smith of Tennessee and a half-brother Lonnie Smith of Tennessee.

Friends may call on Thursday. February 8, 2018 from 9am till time of service at 11am at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Pastor Dale Reynolds will be officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
