Snorkeling – Callie Hoffman

I dipped my hand in the water and saw my reflection on the clear blue water. I picked my goggles off the ground in a swoop. I stuck them to my face and dove in.

“Burr, it’s freezing like an ice cube,” I said. My teeth started chattering and I started to shiver. I swam over to my dad in a “ZOOM” so I could get used to the water. It worked in a pinch. Now it’s time to take some amazing and colorful underwater pictures.

Wow, it’s so pretty it looks amazing! A rainbow fish in a sparkling ocean. “Dad that one lookes like a tiger, “Grr,” I said with a laugh.

Then my dad said “Callie you know you’re my favorite daughter right?” I said I’m your only daughter. We both laughed. “ Cough Snort Cough” My snorkel got filled with water. I took it off in a flash so I could breathe and emptied it out. I got all the water out of it then put it back on with excitement.

I was back down in the water looking at the turtles; they were huge. They swam right up by me and I could feel the power hit me from one of their legs. It was awesome. “Ahh” I said. That one scared me. It felt like something was grabbing me with rubber because that is what the turtle felt like.

The lifeguard- tour guide said it was time to get out of the water. The boat was about a half mile away so it took us awhile to get back. We snorkeled our way back like turtles. Then there it was – the thing I had been waiting on for a long time. A huge jellyfish. It was so beautiful, it looked like a queen. That’s how beautiful it was. I knew that would be one thing I remembered forever. I was so gleeful after that.

We kept swimming in the sparkling ice cube water all the way back to the boat. We made it back unhurried, but it felt like we dashed back. My dad said it was time to get out and I was fuming with anger. I didn’t want to get out. That was the best time I have ever had in awhile.

That was my very first snorkeling adventure in the ocean. It was extra special because it was just Dad and me. All kids should be that lucky.
