Silver Lake Man Arrested for Involvement in Theft Ring

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – A Silver Lake man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in a theft ring targeting the Logansport Wal-Mart, according to a press release from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

Kenny Dale Purvis, 38, Silver Lake, was sentenced to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Correction in Cass Superior Court 2 Monday, Jan. 30, the release states.

A jury found Purvis guilty of corrupt business influence, a Level 5 felony, as well as lesser counts of theft and conspiracy to commit theft, the release continues. Purvis was also found to be a habitual offender, having been convicted of two or more prior felonies, including theft and dealing cocaine, the release goes on to state.

The charges arose from a series of thefts from Wal-Mart in which Purvis and several other individuals entered the store in groups and stole merchandise, according to the release.

Cass County Prosecutor Lisa Swaim praised the Logansport Police Department and Wal-Mart staff in the release.

“We appreciate the hard work of LPD officers Eric Smith and Shonn Parmeter investigating this case, and are grateful for the efforts and ongoing cooperation of the Asset Protection team at Wal-Mart,” Swaim said. “I also commend Chief Deputy Prosecutor Noah Schafer and certified legal intern Jimmy Hildebrand for their hard work and persistence in dismantling this theft ring through three separate jury trials. It is through combined efforts with law enforcement, courts and community partners that we can successfully fight crime in Cass County.”
