Sharon Elaine Behrens

Sharon Elaine Behrens, 68, entered the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior at 1:20am on February 14, 2018 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for seven years.

Born on April 22, 1949 to Paul (Bus) and Lucile (Getz) Eikenberry, she was a 1967 Rochester High School and a 1988 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College, where she earned an Associate’s degree in Accounting.

On January 13, 1968, she married Richard Lee Behrens in Peoria, Illinois, and on May 24, 2006 in Rochester. He survives. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Rochester, Indiana and First Christian Church in Peru, Indiana when she moved in with her daughter. She was a member of the choir, and also started a children’s choir. She participated in many musicals and plays with Fulton County Players and the Maxikuckee Players.

Sharon cared deeply for children. She babysat in her home for many years and later co-owned Kare and Share Daycare with Karen Kessler in Rochester IN. She was the foundation and inspiration for Little Lambs Daycare and Ministry at the First Christian Church in Rochester. Her dream still lives on today, shaping the little minds of the community.

She worked at Kimmel Motors, Sealed Power, and TOPP Industries all in Rochester, as well as Ameri-Can Engineering in Argos.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Richard.  Also two sons: Michael Behrens and partner Matt, Flossmore, Illinois and Jeffrey Behrens, Marshall, Illinois; and one daughter Mel and husband Tony Anderson. Also, brother Jim and wife Pam Eikenberry of Rochester, Indiana, nephew Scott Eikenberry and companion Missy Martin of Rochester, Indiana and Rick Michael of Radner, Indiana. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Brandy Peek, Peru IN, Braxton Bowers, Rochester, IN, Isabel, Sarah, and Natalie Behrens Marshall, Illinois, Adrienne Anderson Hoopeston, Illinois, and Mathew Anderson Kokomo, IN. Also, seven great grandchildren,  as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a son Matthew Behrens.

Friends may call on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 10am to 2pm at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 2pm, with Pastor Lisa Michaels officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Rochester, Indiana.

Donations may be made in Sharon’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Little Lambs Daycare Ministry in Rochester, Indiana.
