School Resource Officer applications being accepted at Maconaquah

BUNKER HILL, IN- Classified applications are now being accepted for the position of School Resource Officer at Maconaquah School Corporation.

Candidates must be an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) graduate, School Resource Officer (SRO) course graduate; must possess active law enforcement experience; be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities assigned to the school resource officer.

Requirements: 

A minimum of five years of full time Law Enforcement Experience is required.Assist in developing and maintaining a safe and secure learning and working environment for students, school personnel, and visitors. This includes taking appropriate action relative to persons who threaten the safety and overall well-being of the school. Assist in developing and implementing school safety programs. Promote crime prevention and safety. Serve as a resource to the school personnel in matters related to Indiana cod, juvenile justice, traffic management, and safety. Perform other safety/security duties as assigned by the appropriate authority. Comply with all Maconaquah School Corporation/Miami County Sheriff Department policies and regulations as they pertain to School Resources Officers. Strive for a positive relationship with school personnel in order to achieve the primary objective, as stated above. Report safety/security concerns to the appropriate party, and notify school administration and SRO supervisors of such concerns. Maintain confidentiality as necessary and expected.

Other duties as assigned by the superintendent:

Pass an in-depth background check using a company provided by Maconaquah School Corporation. Have knowledge of criminal investigation procedures, police report writing, and criminal/traffic law. Have the ability to subdue offenders, to include the use of firearms and handcuffs. Possess good communication, public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Have the ability to demonstrate firearms proficiency, as acknowledged by a certified firearms instructor.
