Russell Smith, 90, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:20 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at his home. He was born April 26, 1927 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Carl and Annie Mae (Bowen) Smith.
Russell married Nellie Mae Ward in Paintsville, Kentucky on April 12, 1950; she died January 2, 2013. He worked at Wabash Alloys 26 years, retiring in 1992. Russell enjoyed working on cars, mowing his yard, talking to people, and going fishing. He lived in Wabash since 1966.
He is survived by seven children, Eugene Smith of Laketon, Indiana, Violet Smith of Wabash, Loretta (Matt) Brodrick of Lagro, Indiana, Ronnie (Mary) Smith of Peru, Indiana, Norman (Angie) Smith of Laketon, Gertrude “Sissy” Smith of Wabash, and Robin (Diana) Smith of Wolcottville, Indiana; 29 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Joyce Bland who died in 2014.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Bernice Pickering officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 12:30-2 pm Saturday, at the funeral home.
