PPD and Miami County Sheriff’s Office conducting Sobriety Checkpoint

PERU, IN- The Peru Police Department and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office are teaming up this weekend to target impaired drivers in Peru and throughout Miami County. Officers will conduct a multi-jurisdictional sobriety checkpoint on the weekend of September 21st during the nighttime hours.

Throughout the weekend, officers will conduct roving saturation patrols to aggressively seek out and arrest impaired drivers. The purpose of these patrols and of the sobriety checkpoint is to prevent intoxicated people from getting behind the wheel, and to remove impaired drivers from our roadways before they cause unnecessary harm to innocent victims.

Officer Keith Smith (PPD) and Sergeant Tyler Jenkins (MCSO) planned this checkpoint with the safety of Miami County citizens in mind. They remind you to always designate a sober driver before going out. Take care of your friends; if someone tries to drive while intoxicated, take their keys and help find them a safe ride home. If you believe you are behind an impaired driver on the roadway, call 911 immediately.
