PERU, Ind. – The City of Peru’s Zoning and Code Enforcement Departments will be ramping up enforcement for Ordinance 97.02, which deals with posting signs on electricity, telephone, and light poles. Ordinance 97.02 reads: POSTING BILLS TO POLES. “It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to post, tack, nail, or otherwise fasten or attach any paper sign, advertisement, cloth, or bill on or to any electric light, telegraph, telephone, or street railway pole which is situated in, along, or on any street, alley, public square, or public ground of the city.” Zoning and Code Enforcement wishes to inform and educate the public about the law before the increased effort is made to curtail posting signs to street poles. A $25 ticket will be issued for each infraction. Any questions may be directed to 765-473-4881.
