Peru Police Department Respond to Two-Vehicle Crash

PERU, Ind. – Peru Police Department responded to an accident at 24 and Mexico Road, Saturday night at 11:14.  Two vehicles had hit head on and were in the middle of the intersection when the police arrived.  Braylee K. Warnock of Kokomo, was driving a 2011 Dodge Caravan, stated that she was going northbound on Mexico Road and was attempting to turn west on bound onto US 24, when the accident occurred.  Miss Warnock stated that she did not see the other car and turned right into the path and striking the 1999 SC Saturn, driven by Frank P. Ward of Peru.  Mr. Ward also said that he observed that Miss Warnock was using a cell phone and he could not avoid the collision and struck the vehicle head-on.  Stacie Hueston, a passenger in the Ward vehicle said she could see the other driver on a cell phone.  Miss Warnock kept stating over and over that it was her fault and did not see the other vehicle at all.  Since Miss Warnock was only 17 she was taken to Dukes Hospital by the Peru Fire, and she could not a get a hold of her parents or guardians which were grandparents.  After clearing the scene, Officer Jon Richardson went to check on the individuals, Miss Warnock’s grandparents had arrived and she refused treatment, and left the hospital.  Ms. Hueston, who was the passenger in the Ward vehicle, says she was hurting all over her body and that she had gall bladder surgery the day before, and was transported by EMS, to the hospital along with Mr. Ward who was to have x-rays done at the time.  Both vehicles had substantial damage.  Miami County Sheriff Deputy Nathen Freeman assisted with the accident.
