Peru Police Department Respond to Tip Advising of Suspicious Odors

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – On December 6, 2016 at approximately 5:12 a.m., Miami County Central Dispatch received an anonymous call advising of suspicious odors from 72 Jefferson in Peru. Patrol officers of the Peru Police Department then responded and after a brief investigation, a search warrant was obtained for this residence.

During a search of the residence, items were located that indicated the possible clandestine manufacture of methamphetamine, along with marijuana use.

Arrested as a result of this investigation were Brian L. Banks (age 45), a resident of this address, for Manufacturing Methamphetamine (level 5 felony), possession of Two or More Precursors (level 6 felony), Maintaining Common Nuisance (level 6 felony), and Possession of Marijuana (A-Misd.).

Also arrested were April L. Vermilya (age 49) and Daniel D. Smith (age 48) for Visiting a Common Nuisance (B-Misd.).

This investigation is currently on-going and anyone with information into this case or other suspected drug activity may contact the Peru Police Department Detective Division.

The Peru Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Miami Co. Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Dukes E.M.S., and the Miami Co. Prosecutor’s Office.
