Peru Community Schools announce 7-12 program consolidation

PERU, IN- Peru Community Schools is very excited to announce that at the latest School Board meeting the 7-12 program consolidation recommendation was voted on and approved. The 7-12 program consolidation will have a result of creating a separate jr. high wing within our current high school structure. This will create an independent area to only be used by our jr. high students. This renovation will create separate rooms, lockers, locker rooms, and restrooms. This transition will also create separate arrival, dismissal, and lunch times. The Class of 2028 (currently 5th graders) will be the first class in the new separate jr. high wing. The purpose for this consolidation consists of financial, current physical condition of our jr. high, enrollment trends, and to expand student educational, Fine Arts, and athletic opportunities. This will be a three-year transition timeline as follows:2020-2021 School Year – request bonding for high school renovations and planning for the transitions of programs, teachers, and students.2021-2022 School Year – construction at the high school begins during the summer of 2021 and some operations will be consolidated between the jr. high and high school.2022-2023 School Year – construction of high school renovations completed by the summer of 2022. After the renovations are complete, the jr. high program will continue to operate as a separate entity within our current high school. The class of 2028 (currently 5th graders) will begin at the new separate jr. high wing.We feel that by consolidating and improving our programs and facilities, we will better be able to serve the Peru community now and in the future so that we are always educating our students Positively, Compassionately, and Successfully.
