PERU, IN- A hearing on the petition for Peru City Council President Patricia Russell to be appointed interim mayor was held today at 2pm in Miami Superior Court.
Officials confirmed the request was approved, and Russell will act as executive for six months or until Peru Mayor Miles Hewitt is able to resume the powers and duties of the office.
Following a recent heart attack, Mayor Hewitt remains hospitalized for treatment.
