NORTH MANCHESTER – The North Manchester Town Council will have a special meeting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, to receive a recommendation for the town’s police chief.
On the council’s June 1 meeting, Chief Jeff Perry surprised those in attendance by announcing his immediate retirement.
“Forty-one years ago I started at this department. Tonight, I’m going to retire,” Perry said at the meeting. “It’s been a long, interesting time. I’ll give you a letter of the retirement after the meeting.”
On June 2, former NMPD officer Steve Olsen was appointed by the Town Council as interim Chief of Police.
Olsen spent 30 years in law enforcement, 27 of them with the NMPD, his first stint was 1978-1983, and then 1989 until his retirement in August 2012.
