MSD of Wabash County School Board meeting 1/12/2021

The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night. Three meetings were held over the evening, including the Board of Finance Meeting, Reorganization Meeting, and the standard Board of Trustees meeting. New board members Christian Rosen and Scott Haupert were sworn in, along with re-elected member Kevin Bowman.

Donations were approved for a total of $4610.00. Thank you for all the generous supporters of the various MSDWC schools and programs.

Superintendent Keaffaber shared a review of district highlights over the course of 2020. Multiple resolutions and distributions were approved.

The expansion of the Little Knights and Little Norse Preschools to offer three-year-old preschool classes was also approved. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, children age three by August 1, 2021, will be eligible to enroll in these outstanding preschool programs. Registration information will become available in February and will be available through the website and social media pages.

Student & Staff Recognition

Staff and students were recognized from each school.

Southwood Elementary

Southwood Elementary thanked the sports coaches for the 2020-2021 school year, including volleyball coaches, Gina Deaton and Drue Gentry, basketball coaches Sean Unger, Clint Enyeart, Jesse Height, Adam Winer, and Randy Pershing.

Southwood Jr/Sr High

Southwood Jr/Sr High School recognized senior Alex Farr for his selection as the Rising Star for White’s Residential and Family Services by the NBA All-Star Legacy Committee. Only 21 students in the state of Indiana were awarded this honor.  

SHS also recognized Tom Finicle and Carrie Haycraft for their work on the County Tournament this year. A great deal of planning and revising plans on their part allowed students to play basketball over the Christmas Holiday.  

Northfield Jr/Sr High

Northfield recognized senior Emma Brainard, who was recently announced as the 2021 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient! This four-year, full-tuition college scholarship is given to one Wabash County senior each year. Congratulations Emma!  NHS and MSD are very proud of you for this awesome accomplishment.

Northfield thanked Jason Lyons and Sherm Gray for all their time and dedication to helping get our Robotics team up and going this year. Having two professionals leaders that work in the engineering field is an awesome resource and wealth of knowledge for Northfield students.  

Northfield also congratulated the Lady Norse Basketball team for winning the 2020 Wabash County Basketball Tournament. The Seniors of the team have won the tourney each year of their four-year high school career. 

Sharp Creek Elementary

Sharp Creek Elementary recognized the hard work and effort of the Paw Print school newspaper staff, including Allison Edmonds, Ashlyn Macy, Saige Martin, Dawson Texeira, and Hayden Copeland. These students produce the monthly Paw Print school newspaper under the guidance of Mrs. Pam Campbell. 

Sharp Creek Elementary congratulated their Spelling Bee Winners: 5th Grade Kiwanis Winner is Collin Biehl and Runner up Nate Hodson; 6th Grade Kiwanis Winner Nichole Fisher and Runner Up Emma Wilson; Journal Gazette Winner Rihanna Poe and Runner Up Kiana Stevens. 

Mrs. Becky Mast was also recognized for providing students with homework help after school two days a week.

Metro North Elementary

Metro North thanked Bachelor Creek Church of Christ for their continued giving to our students, families, and community. Members of BCCC adopted four Metro North families for Christmas providing gifts for eleven of our students.

White’s Jr/Sr High

White’s Jr/Sr High wished Gary Degrandchamp all the best as his last day of work prior to retirement is quickly approaching. Gary has served the White’s school community well and has assisted countless students in learning to master Algebra I skills.  

CAR Program

Transition Coordinator for the CAR Program, Kylee Vrooman, was recognized for the exceptional work she does to conduct the onboarding and enrollment process for all CAR students and parents.
