MPD Responds to Armed Robbery

On 4-11-2022 at 12:06 am officers were dispatched to Hometown Express, 2210 N Huntington Road for an armed robbery. Responding officers were advised upon their arrival that a white male wearing a mask had robbed them and left the business on foot. Upon review of the video, it was determined that a subject with the same physical build and mannerism had been in the store the previous day, just prior to closing, purchasing lottery tickets. The subject was identified to be Ian Smith of Marion. Further investigation into Ian Smith it was found that he was a suspect in a Swayzee PD case, for stealing items from Dollar General. During the theft in Swayzee, Ian was wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the video at Hometown Express. Ian Smith and Meghan Wilson was located at Hart Motel. Upon serving a search warrant on their room and vehicle, drugs, gun, and clothing.

 Ian Smith was arrested by Detectives for Robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, possession of narcotic drugs while in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a syringe with prior conviction, neglect of dependent, maintaining a common nuisance, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer. Ian Smith is being held at the Grant County Jail on a $30,000.00 cash or surety bond.

Megan Wilson was arrest by Detectives for neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance. She was taken to the Grant County Jail on a $6,000.00 / 10% cash bond.
