Miami County CASA seeking Volunteers for April Class

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and our program advocates for abused and neglected children in Miami County. We have an average of 95 children who have been abused or neglected and are involved in the court system every year in Miami County. Many of these children are in foster care and have no voice in what happens to them without volunteers like you. We currently have a waiting list of children who need a CASA volunteer. We need at least 30 more volunteers to be able to give every child an advocate to help them through this traumatic and confusing time.  Every day, there are hundreds of abused and neglected Hoosier children who go to court alone and have no one to advocate for their interests.  Many children do not attend court so their voice is silent – no one speaks for these children and tells the Court what they need while they are in the foster care system.  We mobilize, train and empower volunteers who make a difference by helping judges make informed decisions about what is best for the child’s future.  CASA volunteers are carefully trained, appointed by the Courts and supported by program staff so they can advocate for the child’s best interests and help them have a safe and permanent home as soon as possible.  We are currently accepting applications for our upcoming Volunteer Training Class which will begin the end of April.  Before class can begin though, we will need to have an “initial” interview which could be over the phone or in the office, application filled out and back ground checks completed. If you are interested in becoming a CASA, contact Kurt Kiefer or John Walker at 765 472 7894
