Miami Correctional Facility Holds Quarterly “Leadership Challenge Awards”

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – Miami Correctional Facility honored several correctional leaders with quarterly “Leadership Challenge Awards” recently.
Dan Rich- INSPIRE A SHARED VISION,  Mr. Rich of Kokomo was promoted to Casework Manager in February of 2016.  “Mr. Rich has taken it upon himself to assist in the training of new staff.  He is never too busy to help someone, coming in early, and staying late, when needed, to get the job done.
Jody Alexander- ENABLING OTHER TO ACT,  Ms. Alexander of Greentown was hired in April of 2013 as a secretary 4.  She was promoted to secretary 3 in November 2015.  “Ms. Alexander has a bubbly personality and is hard-working and always has a smile on her face.”
Rachel Alcantara- MODEL THE WAY, Ms. Alcantara of Peru began in May of 2016 as a Secretary 3.  “Ms. Alcantara regularly goes above and beyond by assisting in other areas of the facility.  She volunteers to assist with special projects and offers ideas on how to improve current practices.”
Officer William Martin- ENCOURAGE THE HEART,  Officer Martin of Peru became a Correctional Officer in July of 2005.  “Mr. Martin recently assisted in saving the life of one of the facility’s K-9.  When the dog went down during his duties, Mr. Martin helped carry the dog out of the facility.  This enabled the K-9’s partner to get his vehicle and to take the animal to the vet, potentially saving the dog’s life because of his timely reaction.”
Amanda Spencer- CHALLENGE THE PROCESS,  Ms. Spencer of Windfall was hired in February of 2016 as a Secretary 4.  “Ms. Alexander is responsible for managing a large portion of the administrative functions of tracking and managing the training.  She is an integral part of the training department and helps make sure the department is run efficiently.”
“Even if they are not in a supervisory role, many staff show great leadership skills,”  Superintendent Kathy Griffin said.  “We want to recognized these staff for that with an award.  This also helps encourage our staff to step up to the plate when opportunities come along for promotions. It is nice to see our staff showing great leadership at the Miami Correctional Facility.”
