MCF presented with traveling blood drive trophy

BUNKER HILL, IN– Staff at the Miami Correctional Facility (MCF) were the first recipients of a Dept. of Correction traveling blood drive trophy presented to the correctional facility donating the most units of blood.  The recent blood drive, coordinated by the Versiti Blood Center of Indiana, included participation from MCF as well as other Dept. of Correction locations across Indiana.

When the blood drive concluded, 110 units of blood had been donated, of which 25 came from staff at MCF.  Now MCF staff are the proud custodians of the blood drive trophy.  The next blood drive will determine if MCF can keep the trophy or perhaps have to surrender it to another correctional facility.

Donating blood is one way to help our communities as the Versiti Blood Center of Indiana continues to experience low supplies of blood the result of the ongoing pandemic.

“We look forward to the opportunity to help the community in any way we can, and donating blood is a great way to help” said MCF Warden Bill Hyatte. “While it was great to be the first winners of the traveling trophy, the most important thing is we, as members of the Indiana Department of Correction pulled together as one team to give back.”  Warden Hyatte concluded, “One team, one goal!”
