Marion Police to Shots Fired

On December 27, 2019 at approximately 11:16 pm, Marion Police responded to the area of Greentree Apartments (400 Block of Greentree Drive) for a shooting.

Dezmond K. McQreary, age 22 reported that he exited his residence after hearing a verbal altercation between females in the area. McQreary reported he approached the females at which time which time he was shot. It was reported that the suspect(s) entered a dark colored vehicle and fled the area.

McQreary was transported to Marion General Hospital for medical treatment as he sustained a single gunshot injury to the region of the groin (non-life threatening). McQreary was treated and released. One .22 caliber shell casing was recovered from the scene. No other injuries were reported.

This investigation is ACTIVE.

On December 29, 2019 at approximately 3:56 pm, Marion Police responded to the 2600 Block of South Waite Street for a report of shots previously fired that caused damage to two vehicles and a garage.

James Hahn (homeowner) reported that at approximately 3:00 am he woke up to what he thought sounded like someone banging on his window. Hahn reported that he got up and looked out the window to see if anyone was outside. Hahn reported that he did not see anyone and went back to bed.

At approximately 3:56 pm, Hahn and his wife were leaving the residence when they noticed damage to two of their vehicles. 1998’ Ford, Explorer sustained damage to the lift gate and 2001’ Dodge truck sustained damage to the mirror. After noticing the vehicle damage they began looking around the home. Hahn then located three apparent bullet holes, one in the garage door, the second in the garage door frame and the third in the roof area of the garage.

Officers retrieved four 9mm shell casings in the roadway near Hahn’s residence. If you have any information concerning this case, you are asked to call the Marion Police Department at (765) 662- 9981.
