MARION MUNICIPAL AIRPORT HOSTS NATIONAL AEROBATIC TEAMS FOR TRAINING

MARION, Indiana, June 20, 2018 – Over the last week, Marion Municipal Airport hosted members of the United States Advanced and Unlimited Aerobatic Teams as they participated in a training camp prior to representing the U.S. at the World Aerobatic Championships.

Members of the teams arrived at the Marion airport on Wednesday, June 13. Pilots Rob Holland, Marty Flournoy, Mike Ciliberti and other team members traveled to Marion from locations across the country to participate in training that prepared them for upcoming competitions. The pilots spent a total of 7 days at the airport.

Holland and other members of the teams, coached by World Aerobatic Champion Coco Bessiere, trained each day to perform advanced flight maneuvers. The training in Marion helps prepare the pilots to compete in the world arena for aerobatic flight. Proper coaching and training is imperative to not only doing well in competition but also for the safety of all involved.

Current members of the Unlimited Team are planning to return to Marion in September 2018 to prepare for the United States National Aerobatic Championships, which will be held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Members of the teams will compete against pilots from across the country to earn their spot on the 2019 Unlimited Team which, will represent the U.S. in 2019 at the 30th FAI World Aerobatic Championships in Chateauroux, France.
