Maconaquah Elementary Students Learn Emergency Preparedness Techniques

BUNKER HILL, Ind. – About 200 third grade students at Maconaquah Elementary School recently learned how to prepare for a possible emergency using pillowcases. According to Mac El Counselor Amy Snyder, all third graders attended a 40 minute presentation from the American Red Cross on being prepared and safe in times of disaster. Snyder said every student was given a pillowcase and a “comfort kit,” which included travel-sized toiletries, and they were allowed to decorate their pillowcases in guidance class and discuss what they learned during the presentation. The American Red Cross presents the Pillowcase Project to students across the state in third, fourth, and fifth grade. This was the first year for Mac El to participate.
