Maconaquah Elementary School earns Prestigious Certification from IDOE

BUNKER HILL, Ind. – Maconaquah Elementary School earned a prestigious certification from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Friday for its integration of STEM education. Mac El is now one of the 60 schools in Indiana to be an IDOE STEM Certified School. This makes it the first Miami County elementary school to earn the distinction, and the second Miami County school total. Maconaquah Middle School earned the distinction in 2015. According to an IDOE press release, schools earn STEM certification “based on their commitment to teaching the STEM disciplines throughout the entire school. (They) exemplify a highly non-traditional approach to education, employing a great deal of inquiry, project-based learning, community engagement, entrepreneurship, student-centered classrooms, integration into humanities and related arts, and out of school STEM activities.”
