DNR to host two October trout fishing events

The DNR will stock 200 rainbow trout measuring 12-14 inches long in
ponds at Shoaff Park (Fort Wayne) and Memorial Park (Huntington) for
two different trout fishing events.

The workshop at Shoaff Park will be on Friday, Oct. 18 from noon to 3
p.m. The Learn to Fish for Trout workshop is designed for adults and will focus on teaching the basic skills of trout fishing. Once the event
concludes, the pond will be open to everyone for fishing. Workshop
participants must be at least 18 years old and register in advance.
Shoaff Park is located at 6401 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. The pond is at the west end of the park near the St. Joseph River. For additional details and to register, visit wildlife.IN.gov/7543.htm and click
Learn to Fish for Trout, Fort Wayne (10/18/2019).
The Memorial Park family fishing event will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8 to 10 a.m. Families are welcome to come and go as they please, but are encouraged to register by visiting wildlife.IN.gov/7543.htm and clicking
Family Fishing, Huntington (10/19/2019). DNR will provide a limited
supply of fishing rods and bait to new anglers. No trout fishing will be
allowed prior to the event. The park has two ponds, but only the north
pond will be stocked. Memorial Park is located at 1200 West Park Drive,
Huntington.

This year DNR is placing small, orange-colored plastic tags on many of the trout stocked at Memorial Park in order to count the overall number of
trout caught during and after the event. Small canisters will be posted
onsite for anglers to remove the tag and return it to DNR.

All anglers age 18 and older must have a valid Indiana fishing license and trout stamp. The harvest limit is five trout per angler.

The trout stocking program aims to offer an exciting and safe way for
families and new anglers to experience the joys of fishing. To learn more about DNR fish stocking, visit wildlife.IN.gov/5457.htm.
