Bunker Hill Woman Dies in Weekend Crash 

Miami County – Saturday at approximately 10:59 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at State Road 218, in which a Bunker Hill, IN woman died.

A preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Adam Moor revealed that Mary Stamper, 78, Bunker Hill, IN was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette van westbound on State Road 218, approaching U.S. 31. For an undetermined reason, the van pulled onto U.S. 31 and collided with a northbound 2016 International semi-tractor. The semi-tractor, which was driven by Julio Munoz, 47, Muncie, IN was pulling a box trailer.

Munoz was not injured. Stamper was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital.  Unfortunately she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

This crash is still under investigation. At this time, neither alcohol nor drug use is suspected as having contributed to the crash.

Munoz was driving for U.S. Xpress.

Trooper Moor was assisted at the scene by the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, Miami County EMA, ISP Sergeant Rick Brown, Master Trooper Joe Swisher,  Senior Trooper Jeremy Perez, the Pipe Creek Fire Department, the Grissom Fire Department,  Dukes’ Hospital EMS, and Lutheran Medical Helicopter.
