GRANT COUNTY, Ind. – As an update to information released yesterday, the victim’s identity was released by the Grant County Coroner’s Office as Steven Nickell 33 year old white male from Muncie Indiana with a preliminary cause of death being determined as gunshot, an autopsy is pending.
The nature and cause of the shooting is still under investigation and any information that did not come from an official release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department should only be regarded as speculation at this point.
Several interviews have been conducted and continue to be done, as well as the processing and collecting of evidence from the scene and other locations as it relates to this case.
One of the subjects taken into protective custody last night from the residence, a Matthew Whitt a 39 year old white male from Wabash Indiana, has been arrested on an unrelated charge, a warrant for Parole Violation.
As more information becomes available for release I will pass it on. As before the case is still being actively investigated by the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, the Grant County Prosecutors Office and the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
Also I did not report to you yesterday but Officers from the Indiana State Police also responded to the initial call and assisted at the scene.
