WABASH,Indiana – It’s time to say Happy Birthday to the City of Wabash; the city is exactly 150 years old.  Back in 1866, the state of Indiana recognized Wabash as “the City of Wabash.”  That year citizens of Wabash elected their first Mayor, Joseph H. Matlock.  Mayor Matlock served the city from 1866 to 1868.  Since that time, Wabash citizens have enjoyed the services of 29 Mayors.  Mayor Scott Long is the 29th Mayor of our city.  The first Common Council, which is now the city Council, also began in 1866.

The City of Wabash would like to invite everyone to join in celebrating our 150th birthday at the big Birthday Celebration Jam during the May First Friday Celebration on Friday, May 6th from 5-8pm in downtown Wabash.

Musicians will be jamming with live music throughout the downtown.  City hall will be open for tours and will be serving cake and punch.  Several of your City Council members and city Hall employees will be on hand to help with the event.

To add to the birthday celebration, a bounce house and cotton candy will be available in the parking lot adjoin City hall.  Businesses will have their doors open and some will participate in the usual map stamping where everyone has a chance to win prizes.  Please join in celebrating 150 years and wish the “City of Wabash” a very happy birthday!
