Vote YES for Wabash

On May 3, citizens of Wabash will be able to cast their votes in the primary election. Although it is common during a presidential election season for all other matters to be overshadowed by the national race, it would be a mistake to ignore the impact that this Election Day will have on the local community—particularly in regards to a referendum dealing with funding for the Wabash City Schools.

By voting YES on this referendum, we will be casting our votes not only for better schools, but for a better Wabash.

This referendum is for $0.28 on $100 of assessed value, which comes to $4.83 per month for the average property in the Wabash area. For under $5 per month per family, our schools will be able to continue providing a top-quality education in a safe school environment while remaining more fiscally sustainable.

Not only will this referendum immediately benefit the local economy—the Wabash City Schools are the 4th largest employer in Wabash!—it will also lay the groundwork for its continued growth and success.

This referendum will enable Wabash to support the development of students by providing them with better educations; people will take note of the high caliber of individuals from Wabash City Schools as employees, citizens, and neighbors. As a result, our businesses and community will become even more lucrative as our schools continue to thrive.

However, these are not the only reasons that I will be voting YES for Wabash. I am also voting YES because of my support for Jason Callahan, the superintendent of the Wabash City Schools.

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with civic and business leaders of all types and from all over the world, and I have worked with Jason personally on issues related to the Wabash City Schools, civic community, my business (INGUARD), and our personal projects. My experiences with him in all of these interactions have made my decision quite simple; he is a remarkable person, Wabash is lucky to have him in our community, and the support I have for him is unwavering.

My support for him will be cast in this election.

While he will probably always consider himself a teacher, he is also a leader who could pick any school system or organization in the world to work for, and his experience and guidance would be able to benefit them in many different ways.

He has, without any previous personal connection, chosen to make Wabash the home for himself, his wife, and their sons. Furthermore, he works tirelessly to support our schools and the livability of our community with passion. He has never-ending willingness to continuously develop our school system as well as its employees, teachers, administration, and—most importantly—its students. They all deserve our support.

However, if all of that is not enough for you—if you do not believe in supporting the referendum simply because it is the right thing to do for the future of Wabash…

Or because it sends the right message to young professionals who either have moved here or who would consider moving here…

Or because it will help to make your homes and businesses more valuable due to the positive effect that quality schools have upon both property value and economic competitiveness…

Or because it will help Wabash become an even better place to live…

If none of those reasons are enough for you, then consider it for this reason: it is a vote of support for a person who has made his life about service to the community, someone who is trying to do so much for all of us.

If you do want your community to be remarkable, then support the remarkable people in it, and I promise Wabash will thrive and flourish.

Let’s be remarkable; vote for Jason, and vote YES for Wabash.

With Passion, Parker Beauchamp
