WABASH, IN — The Wabash County Public Safety Academy is officially accepting applications for its 2025 summer session, offering students a unique opportunity to experience what it takes to serve as a first responder in their community.
The weeklong academy will take place June 23–27, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM daily at Wabash Middle School. The program is open to students entering 8th through 10th grade in Fall 2025 who are enrolled in—or plan to attend—a junior or senior high school in Wabash County.
The students will engage in hands-on training and demonstrations with professionals from multiple law enforcement agencies, the fire department, EMS, DNR, and other public safety agencies. The academy is designed to build leadership, teamwork, and confidence, while offering a firsthand look at the work of Wabash County’s first responders.
“This program is more than just training—it’s about empowering students, fostering civic pride, and sparking interest in future public safety careers,” said School Resource and Wabash Police Officer, Sam Hipskind, who is leading the effort and coordinating The Academy for Wabash County students.
There is no cost to attend, but advance registration is required. The application process begins with an online interest form and includes a routine background check. Once cleared, applicants will receive a final registration link and detailed information.
Registration closes Friday, May 23, 2025
