Gabrielle Wendy “Gaby” Nearhouse, 84, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 10:00 pm, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at her home. She was born on September 16, 1940, in Redwood, California, to Jess and Anita (Schimetschek) Parentice.
Gaby married Mike Nearhouse Sr. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wabash in July 1979. She worked 22 years at Container Corporation in Wabash, was the Welcome Wagon Hostess, substitute teacher at the Wabash City Schools, worked in the Catalog Department at Sears, and also worked for Love Bug Floral. Gaby was a member and officer of the Moose Lodge, was a competitive diver in high school and college, and was a registered Red Cross Swim and Lifesaving Instructor. She also bred and showed Sharpei dogs. Gaby enjoyed playing Bridge and Bingo.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Nearhouse Sr. of Wabash; four children, Kurt (Nancy) Butgereit of Wabash, Mike Nearhouse, Jr. of Kokomo, Indiana, Michelle (Steve) Pogue of Macy, Indiana, and Mark Nearhouse of Kokomo; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brother, Jonathan (Lynn) Parentice of Moab, Utah, and sister-in-law, Mary Parentice of Asheville, North Carolina, . She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Kara Brown who died March 3, 2014, and her brother, Michael Parentice.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Friends may call 9:30-10:30 am Saturday, at the funeral home.
