Wyanzia, known as Wy by family and friends, was born in Soldier, Kentucky to the late Arthur W. and Martha E. (Dickison) Thompson. She was born into a large family being the next to the youngest of 10 children. The family moved from Kentucky to Illinois, but lack of employement opportunities caused the family to relocate to Indiana where most of the family remained.

During WWII Wy worked at Delta Electric and later for Sniders Canning and Marion Glove Factory. She married Reed M. Chadd in January, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1967. After leaving the work force, Wy devoted her time to raising her children.

Wy loved to read and shared this love with her children. She gardened, did her own canning, she was an excellent cook, quilter and enjoyed bird watching. She liked to travel to the southwestern United States and kept journals of her travels. Wy loved the United States and was very proud to be an American. Her first priority was always her family and she was a compassionate caregiver when sickness arose. Wy was a devout Christian and was a member of 29th Street Assembly of God and later she attended Hillside Wesleyan Church. She was compassionate not only to her family but to others. She often contributed to charities and also shared her love of nature and animals with others.

Survivors include her children, Roger W. McCrea, Larry L. (Anita) McCrea, both of Marion; David E. (Paula) Chadd, Phoenix; Melanie “Annette” (Carl) Benedict, Gayle (Michael) Millette, both of Van Buren; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Wy is also preceded in death by her brothers, Archie Thompson, Herm Thompson, Heskie Thompson, Eskie Thompson, Wayne Thompson; sisters, Addie Thompson, Ada Bost and Norma Bradford.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana with Rev. Ben Watkins officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4pm-8pm in the funeral home. The burial will be in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
