Wilmer H. Fields, 94 of Huntington passed away at 8:00 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Wilmer was a 1940 graduate of Odon High School. He served in the U.S. Army 13th Armored Black Cat Division as a SSGT officer from December 31, 1942 – February 14, 1946. He received the following decorations and citations: American Theatre Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and Victory Medal. He worked at Kenosha Transport where he met his wife, Mary. He also worked as a truck driver for Sunoco at the Huntington terminal; he delivered the first and last load out of the terminal with never having an accident. After his retirement he worked at Byrds Auto Sales where he picked up cars at auctions, as well as working for O’Daniels Automotive where he drove the courtesy shuttle. Wilmer was very active with Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a member for over 60 years. He was an avid swimmer, he loved to bowl and was on the Sunoco bowling team and was a member of the Lions Club.

Wilmer was born on August 22, 1922 in Odon, Indiana, the son of Herbert and Jennie (Roberts) Fields.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Kirkpatrick on May 3, 1952 at the Forest Park Methodist Church; she preceded him in death on January 1, 2006.

Survivors include: a son: Michael Fields of Spring City, TN; three daughters: Mary Ellen Neuenschwander of Roanoke; Jennifer (Junior) Geiger of Huntington; Holly (Jason) Eaton of Fishers; a brother: Junior Fields of Clay City, IN; a sister: Monna Kane of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; a grandson: Jarrod Geiger; three brothers: Ernie Fields, William Fields, Gerald Fields and two sisters: Virginia and Bonnie.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 3:00 pm with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Interment will be at the Zion Cemetery in Huntington County with military honors.
