On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Wilma Jane (Wilson) VanDyke, 87, passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor in Peru, Indiana. She was born February 5, 1929 in Wabash, IN to Thomas and Ruth (Resler) Wilson. She married Robert B. VanDyke on June 29„ 1947 who preceded her in death on March 8, 1997.
Wilma attended Peru Church of the Brethren for the past several years. She enjoyed her morning group of coffee drinkers at Hardees. She was frequently seen visiting the residents of Miller’s Merry Manor. She also attended lunch at Area Five for the past 27 years where she enjoyed the company of her friends. She had a passion for traveling by train or bus any chance she got. And, she was an avid picture taker.
She is survived by her children: James VanDyke and fiancé Wanda Ellis, Peru; Roger (Sherry) VanDyke, Kokomo; Gail VanDyke, Peru; and Jane (Tim) Holland, Peru.
She had 5 grandchildren: Shannon (Dana) VanDyke-Grasman, Irvine, CA; Jamie (Paul) Quigley, Mishawaka, IN; Holly (Brad) Rogers, Peru; Kain Holland, Loveland, CO; and Blane (Mary) Holland, Peru.
She is survived by 6 great-grandchildren: Quig Quigley, Elizabeth “Libby” Rogers, Jackson Rogers, Logan Rogers, Layla Holland, and Tessa Holland. She is also survived by two step-great-grandchildren: Shawneci Windell and Cole Trueblood.
She is survived by two sisters: Pauline Gentry, Peru; and Shirley (George) Greene, Whitesboro, NY.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband; one sister, Joanne Winters of Roanne, IN; and step-grandson Eric Pettay of Tybee Island, GA.
Friends and family may call from 3-6 pm on Thursday, May 19th at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 am on Friday, May 20 at the funeral home. Pastor Phil Cruea will be officiating and burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
