William J. “Bill” Spath

William J. “Bill” Spath, age 92, of Vail, Arizona and formerly of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday December 6, 2016 at 7:30 pm at his residence in Vail.  He had worked at Sealtest for 37 years and Helena Chemical in Craigville for 13 years, retiring in 2001.  He served in the US Army in WWII and was a member of Roanoke American Legion Post #160.

 

Bill was born August 11, 1924, in Huntington, the son of Jacob C. and Edith E. (Johnson) Spath.  On December 21, 1946, he married his beloved wife of 64 years Nancy L. Oswalt in Huntington and she passed away August 10, 2011.  He is survived by a son Ronald W. Spath of Roanoke, 3 daughters Gloria J. Edwards of Roanoke, Patricia J. (Norm) Knuth of Fort Wayne, and Susan K. (JD) Garwood of Vail, Arizona, 8 grandchildren Mark Lime, Brad Budrow, Danielle Flaningan, Brandi Edwards, Bill Edwards, David Garwood, Judy Garwood (who served as his caregiver), Christine Garwood, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by 4 brothers Edward, Earl, Russell, & Robert Spath and 4 sisters Isabelle Taylor, Mary Holmes, Florence Jeannette Spath and Doris Green.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday December 11, 2016 from 2-8 pm and one hour prior to the 11:00 am Monday funeral service at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel with Pastor Randy Dubois of New Life Fellowship officiating.  Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, with Roanoke American Legion Post #160 providing the military honors.
