William E. Wiley, Jr.

William E. Wiley, Jr., 92, Marion, passed away at Marion General Hospital at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017. He was born in Marion on May 20, 1925, to the late William and Elizabeth (Williams) Wiley, Sr.. William married Elizabeth Gilmore Boxell on January 22, 1972, and they shared 30 years together until she passed on October 9, 2002.

Following his graduation from high school in Kansas City, Kansas, William enlisted in the U.S. Army. Stationed in the Philippines, he proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the “Cyclones”, 38th Infantry Division Indiana (KY) National Guard, later known as Avengers of Bataan. William was also a Purple Heart recipient. Following his military service, William worked at I & M Power in Marion, where he was Supervisor over systems. He and his wife loved to travel, and they vacationed numerous times in Hawaii and in Florida, where his step-son lived. They had also gone back and visited the Philippines a couple of times later in life. William also enjoyed reading and photography.

He will be missed by his daughter, Kathy Powell, Cape Canaveral, Florida; step-children, Cece (Gary) Wood, LaFontaine, Charles (Jean) Boxell, Arkansas, Philip Boxell, and William (Colleen) Boxell, North Carolina; step-grandchildren, Gregg (Denise) Wood, LaFontaine, Mark (Mary) Wood, Wabash, Allen Boxell, Indianapolis, Sarah Boxell, Massachusetts, Amy Boxell, Massachusetts, Rachel (Joseph) Kennedy, Maryland, Natalie Boxell, North Carolina, and Clayton Boxell, North Carolina; four step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard (Michael Ann) Wiley, Florida.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Scott Powell.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Estates of Serenity in Marion with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
