William “Bill” J. Mallow, 94, of Peru passed away at 2:00 AM, Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru. He was born in Miami County on August 4, 1921 the son of George and Pearl Shropshire Mallow. He married Lola Sage in 1942 and she preceded him in death. He later married Lalah Pritchard of Noblesville and she also preceded him in death. A paragon of America’s Greatest Generation William J. Mallow enlisted in the United States Army on July 2, 1942. His Military decorations include American Theater Ribbon; the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon; World War II Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He participated in the campaign in New Guinea. Following his return to civilian life in 1945 Bill worked on the railroad and in 1952 opened the family business Mallow Appliance of Peru which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1986. Bill was blessed with good health and enjoyed over 30 years of retirement. Throughout his life he enjoyed sailing, RV traveling, casinos, flying and county music. In 2014 he was honored as a WWII Veteran on an honor flight to Washington, DC. He became a pilot and enjoyed times with many good friends at the Peru Municipal Airport in his later years. Bill also served on the Miami County Airport Board. Surviving are his sons Jerry Mallow and his wife Beverly, Bud Mallow and his wife Cheryl, grandchildren Lisa (Tony) Uggen, Michael (Jeri) Mallow, Brian (Holly) Mallow and Jeff (Victoria) Mallow and great grandchildren Christian and Brandon Fleener, Taylor Mallow and Morgan and Parker Mallow. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Lola and Lalah, a brother Henry and sisters Eva Mavity, Flora Jean Wease, Wilma Zion and Paulene Mallow Visitation will be from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. Services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday April 12, 2016 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Rankin Cemetery with Military Graveside Services provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
