Wayne D. Clanin, 88, Marion, died at Marion General Hospital at 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. He was born in Roanoke, IL, to the late George and Mary (Black) Clanin. On July 20, 1979, Wayne married Phyllis A. Shields, and she survives.

Wayne was the Owner of Clanin’s in Marion for 50 years and retired from GM in 1998 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed golfing and was actively involved in a coin club, Operation Shoebox, and The Gideons International. Wayne’s goal in life was to make everyone smile, and he loved to give big hugs. He was a member of Eastview Wesleyan Church, where he was known to many as “Grandpa”.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Wayne is survived by his children, Kevin (Gennie) Clanin, OK, Connie (Burt) Keesee, IN, Shawn (Beata) Clanin, MI, and Anna (Daniel) Minnick, NC; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Also preceding him in death were 11 sisters; 3 brothers; sons, Danny Clanin and Kelly Clanin; and grandson, Jacob Keesee.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th St., Gas City, IN, with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Entombment will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
