Wanda G. Akers, age 76, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday March 2, 2016 at 8:05 pm at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She worked at Memcor for 15 years and retired from Majestic after 15 years of service. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wanda was born March 12, 1939, in West Union, Ohio, the daughter of Harley Burchel and Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Young Sr. On October 27, 1957 she married her beloved husband of 58 years Paul D. Akers in Peebles, Ohio and he survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 2 sons Tim Akers and Michael Akers both of Huntington, a daughter Deborah Morris of Huntington, 6 grandchildren Jordan Akers, Logan Akers, Tiffany Akers, Brandy Denman, Noah Morris and Abby Morris, 2 great-grandchildren Cayden Akers and Aria Newsome, 4 brothers Ronnie Young of West Union, Ohio, Robert Young of Peebles, Ohio, David Young of Dayton, Ohio, John Young of Dayton, Ohio, and 2 sisters Mae Stone of Peebles, Ohio and Elma Honaker of Richmond, VA. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers George Young and Harley B. Young Jr., and 2 sisters Wilma Pennywitt and Myrtle Houchen.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 7 from 11 am to 1 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel prior to the Monday, March 7, 1:15 pm graveside service at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Rev. Wally Morris officiating.
